Developing an Online Poets Portal containing comprehensive information about around 500 celebrated Sanskrit Poets of India.

While it is quite popular that the literature of Vedic Sanskrit is deep and vast like an ocean having its own distinctive nature, Classical Sanskrit too resembles an ocean and when studied deeply can surprise a person conducting the study, with its depth and vastness. Sanskrit literature came into being with the revealing of Vedas to the seers of yore and left a rich legacy of literary knowledge for the times to come. It is a well-known fact that several celebrated poets right from Sage Valmiki, Vyasa to the greatest of poets Kalidasa adorned the firmament of Classical Sanskrit literature in a unique manner. Over the last few millenniums, till the 21st  Century, there have been more than 1,000 poets from all parts of India who have contributed to the growth and nurturing of Classical Sanskrit literature.

• The task of documenting the various branches of Vedic Literature along with the seers (Rishis) to whom the respective chapters of the different branches of the Vedic texts were revealed has been undertaken by scholars well versed in the Veda-s. 

• As far as documenting the various branches and works of those branches of the Classical Sanskrit literature is concerned, various efforts have been made by the scholars of literature both in South India and North India. 

• However, when one studies these efforts, it is seen that these efforts are not comprehensive and exhaustive. They have omitted several important branches of Classical Sanskrit literature, on the one hand and on the other hand they are not comprehensively covered all the poets that adorned the lineage of Classical Sanskrit literature. 

• Further, these books are either in Hindi language or in the regional languages, thus limiting their reach and therefore unavailable to the public who are increasingly getting interested in various facets of Classical Sanskrit literature. 

• It is also to be noted that most of these books are out of print and are not readily available off the shelf with the leading publishers and distributors of Sanskrit books. 

• It is also to be noted that there is no online resource that is a ready reckoner that can provide specific or focused information on a particular poet or his work instantly, which is the order of the day. 

• Therefore, there is dire need to have an Online Sanskrit Portal of the celebrated poets of Classical Sanskrit Literature - in English language with proper search facilities etc. to provide instant accessibility of the information. 

• Further, many other features like providing information in a uniform template about the poets and their works has not been undertaken so far, either in print or electronic formats. 

• Students of Sanskrit literature of the Graduate and Post Graduate levels of more than 300 Universities in India pursuing Sanskrit degrees
•  Students studying B. Sc., B. Com, and B.A. in all disciplines of all Universities in India where Sanskrit is prescribed as an elective / core language
